Pro-Select Pond Plant Packages |
Take the guesswork out of figuring out what to plant!
Especially convenient for Pond and Watergarden Newbie's!
This offer subject to seasonal availability. Sorry, no
substitutions or changes.
One of the biggest misconceptions we see is
that someone will buy 1 plant and put it in their pond expecting it to magically spread like
wildfire. This is never going to happen with plants contained in pots. In the wild bog plants will
spread fast because they all share the same soil. This is why on our regular
pond plants we sell them in sets of 3 or 6 plants except for lilies and lotus. It is ironic
that people will spend a lot of money building a pond, but then when it is time to put the icing on
the cake with plants they only buy just a plant or 2 thinking the plants will grow fast and spread.
Finish your pond off with gobs of plants! Plant it up, make it lush and green. Don't set just 1 pot
down with 1 start in it. Set down 4 or 5 pots with at least 3 plants in each pot so your garden
looks like the Amazon rain forest. Sure we make more money if you buy more plants. But that is not
why I am preaching this plan of action. I am just giving an experienced tip. We suggest that you buy
a package and do a test. Soon you will know what your strong plants for your particular water
conditions and local weather patterns. Then you can plant those species which respond well to your
area heavily for the maximum visual effect. Also, EVERY watergarden and pond needs the
Japanese algae eating snails that are contained in these packages.

The Black Japanese
Trapdoor snail is the preferred species of water gardeners world-wide. This snail is black
in color, body and shell. We ship them when they get to be the size of a quarter. Trapdoor snails
are one of the few larger varieties that can survive the winter in Northern climates. This snail is
a great asset in keeping algae under control as they groom your plants, planting pots and
watergarden walls. They also cruise the pond bottom and consume decaying matter such as leaves and
fish food. These are live bearing snails. They only breed a couple of times a year so don't expect
them to multiply fast like regular egg laying snails. Full grown snails are around 3" long.
Submerged Oxygenator Pond Plants - These plants are
productive in the watergarden due to the fact that they compete with algae for the nutrients in the
water and effectively reduce the amount of algae that will be able to grow helping to keep the water
clear. You don't need to fertilize them because you want them to take advantage of the excess
nutrients (nitrates) already present in your pond water.
Floating pond plants - These are the most desirable
addition to the watergarden as they provide surface cover, shade the pond water and provide a place
for fish to escape the mid-day sun. Floating plants use nutrients from the water competing with
algae to help keep the pond clear. They don't require planting because their roots actually feed
directly from the water! They do this at such a fast rate that it is not unusual for them to cover
the surface of the water in as little as a few weeks time. It is this rapid growth and removing
undesirable ammonia and nitrates from the water that makes them so important in keeping a healthy,
clean and clear water garden.
Hardy bog plants - Accent the water garden by adding color and
shape to the water garden. Our plants are grown in 2" net pots to insure good root development to
reduce transplant shock. Our method of growing the bog plants in this way reduces the likelihood of
the plant dying back like bare root stock normally would. The size of the plant that we ship varies
by variety. We try to ship plants that are semi-mature not just new starts.
READ PLEASE! These are all hardy packages, good
for any part of the country. However, plants grow differently depending on where you live. Let's
take 3 cities, Miami, Louisville and Boston. If you took any one of these packages and put them in
each of the 3 cities, each plant would have different development patterns. Take the Arrowhead for
example. In Miami the Silk Stockings Arrowhead may grow like crazy and in Boston it may be a runt.
In New York you may find that the flowering bog plants are all good except the lizard's tail. (not
to say that is true because I don't know) Once you get a handle on what your strong plants are then
you can start propagating large areas of them so your pond looks lush.

RESTRICTED PLANTS:
Some states have bans on certain pond plants. Check the
USDA Noxious Plants website
prior to purchase. The buyer needs to beware of any regulations
on plants that may be restricted. If your order gets confiscated
by your state agriculture department we cannot be held responsible.
CLIMATE VARIATIONS:
We guarantee our plants will arrive alive and healthy. Pond Plants
grow differently depending on where you live. If you took pond plants
of the same type, and planted them in different parts of the USA,
each plant would grow differently. This is Mother Nature at work.
We cannot guarantee that your climate will support long term growth
as this varies by location. With experience you will find which
pond plants thrive in your
USDA Zone. Join our
Pond, Watergarden
and Plant Forum and ask some questions before you buy
is the best advice we can give you.
SUBSTITUTIONS: We
reserve the right to substitute similar plants of equal or greater
value unless you specifically request otherwise in the remarks section
of your order. This happens almost never though, and if it does
happen it is usually in regard to floating and submerged oxygenation
plants.
