Too bad they dont make them for bigger ponds.  With that shape you could use those with your plants all summer long.

ya! I keep my net on and it is hard to keep it from sagging in the water, that would be perfect

You can make em yourself for a fraction of the cost with PVC - its flexible and you can create a dome to the shape of your pool.. here's what we have made for ours.

My pond is 20 foot round.  I don't think that would work for me.  I don't have anything in the center that I could brace it with and it would sag.  Unless I came up with a brace  that wouldn't puncture the bottom of the pond.

You don't need to brace it up - I created the same thing, different version for my friend's pond.  Hers is round like yours.  The pvc is strong, you just connect it, bow it to the ground.  I drive long spikes into the ground that fit right inside the pvc to hold it in place.  As long as you have a criss-cross, it will be strong.  For hers, I put up 3 lines going across, and two going the other way, with no center brace.  I guess, if you wanted to, you could drop a center brace down from the center into a lilly pot for added support.

I do remember us talking about this before, but never got around to checking into it. I remember you showing us the stakes that you used.  Can you buy the PVC in any length?  My pond being 20 ft across I would think I would need 25 or 30 ft long for the dome effect.  And how would you get that home from the store?

I think the white PVC comes about 10 ft.  It is flexible so you can bring it home in your car, just bend it into the vehicle.  I brought some of it home in my Mustang.  We got ours from Home Depot.  There are connectors that you can buy - they're really cheap, like 25 cents or less each.  You can get straight or angled connectors, whatever angle you wish to create.  If you want it to be really secure, I would glue the connections.  We use this system for the massive amounts of maples that are all around us (neighbors' yards).  I use the 1/4" netting to keep out just about any debris, large or small, that falls, especially those annoying spinners.  The netting costs a little more, but its worth it.

Since the leaves are starting to fall I worked on a net today using Judes suggestions. I had to use six 10 ft sections to make it across the pond.  I screwed together 3 sections about two feet long for the center and slide the 10 ft sections into them.  I secured the 10 ft sections to the center using cotter pins so that it can be taken apart and stored.   Here is how mine turned out!  The only bad thing is its still not tall enough for the cattails and also I feel like Im at the zoo now!

I forgot to say that the tubing, screws & cotter pins all cost  less than $15 bucks.

Good job - it's never easy wrestling with that netting.  Looks like the dog approves. Grin

Well after 'rasslin with my net for too long I think I'm going to attempt the PVC dome thingie, especially since seeing the price won't break the bank.

Good job Lori and Jude on instructions and visuals.  After all the comments are done in this thread I'm going to move this topic to the nugget section for safe keeping so it doesn't get lost as time goes on.

yankee - good job on getting the inspiration going.  For a lot less $$ it just takes some elbow grease and creative minds.  Looks like they wanted over $100 for that small tent.

I know, Tana, its overpriced, and probably wouldn't fit 99% of the ponds out there anyway.  It's better to create your own custom build, and for a fraction of the cost.

Agreed on it not fitting the majority of the ponds out there Jude.  9x7 isn't very big at all!!  The most costly thing would be the net itself, but it's worth it for leaf and predator control.
