Oh, come on!  They have that fairy tale mysticalness about them! Their so colorful and flit here and there!!  How can you all hate them so much? Grin  Its just another part of nature coming to visit.  I don't know about everyone else, but the fry are taking over the pond this year.  I wouldn't even miss a few hundred Smiley.

dragon fly nymph feed on fish fry, yet frogs get the bigger fish, and get the bad rap. is it because you haven't seen the fry yet, that they are that less important than a bigger fish??? don't get it

Its not that they aren't important...its just that they are overpopulated.  Its natures way...survival of the fittest and all that!  They have to be thinned out in some manner or risk killing off all the rest of the pond.  It is no worse than people trading them to the petshop who then sells them to someone who wants to feed them to their frog or piranha or snake or turtle or whatever.  You just think they are getting a good home, but in reality they are probably dinner Smiley Sorry

Bex, we had two REALLY tiny fish (fry) that we were watching every day for about a week or so, but one, then the other just disappeared.  They don't stand a chance between the dragonflies, the frogs, and the other fish.  I honestly don't get how they even grow into real fish with so many strikes against them.

ya, that's the way it goes. the bigger fish are the fry's worst enemy. I watch them gobble up their eggs, and newly hatched fry by the thousands. but I guess it's good they do, or we'd be really overpopulated.

Mother nature has a way with keeping the entire Pond egosystem balanced, just let her take control and enjoy your pond.

No predator can do the damage our own fish do before we ever know what's even there! But we need that balance, like glenn says
