Weez, I think they are more like sending you a bunch of bull****

We would never do that to poor Weez.   Wink

Here's mine...  so if Weezie's is a bullfrog, I'm pretty sure mine is too?

looks like you definately have a bullfrog on your hands, and a handsome one at that. he only wants to keep the bug population down, honest!!

If it was me....I think I would wait and see. If he does no harm, just enjoy him being there.

So far so good with them and I think there is still at least two there.  When I spotted this one, he stayed put but there was a big splash into the pond so I think the other one jumped in as I got near.  I think I'm gonna leave them cuz I think they're cute too, but if I start to notice my bigger fish missing, they're outta here.   Grin  Maybe they will keep the fry population down a bit as Weez said.

I have two of these in my pond been there for three years I have always identified
them as water frogs, bull frogs are much smaller about ten of the come to my pond to lay eggs in May then they disappear and I have about a million tadpoles the last week in may also bull frogs are not scary they will not jump in the water when you approach them and they are very noisy. I hope this help

Jesswms

Bull frogs get rather large...they maybe small when they start out like everything else but they can grow large enough to eat a good sized koi.

so I've read, it's the lateral dorsal line that distinguishes the green frog from the bull. if you notice on the bullfrog, (and weez'z pic), the line only goes around his round spot on the side. on the green frog, it goes all the way down his back. they say that is the most distinguishing feature.

Tana and Weez, you guys have bullfrogs for sure, and males at that.  And they DO jump into the water if you approach, unless you have one like Bex's friend that is actually tame to humans.  That's kind of unusual, as they really don't like people, just FISH, birds, and other frogs - even koi.  And they DO get HUGE like Cubie said.  They will definitely keep the fish population down to whatever they can't eat.   And yes, bergerboy, they are best served in frogeritas along with heron kabobs.

actually Jude, from what I've been reading, bullfrogs are less apt to fly into the water like a green frog when you approach. only if they feel threatened which is prolly why they all jump from you! bulls are easier to tame, and you can feed them.

I don't know, I guess if you only have a small number of fish and are worried about losing them, you wouldn't want him around, but if you have a bunch of fish, and they are always multiplying, and it don't matter if one or two are missing ....maybe.. they arean asset as they eat spiders, which I hate. If there is a good supply of bugs that land near them, they are gonna go the lazy way and fill on them. they don't want to spend energy chasing fish unless that's all there is.

Bexo, you are doing a bang up job of painting a happy face on it. I've never had a bull frog here but I know they eat anything that moves, including snakes, frogs, insects, fish, birds, lizards...you name it. Hard to see a plus in that around your pond.

cause you've never had one. hard to see the bad, when I haven't seen any bad. so there are extreme cases, geez your fish are just as canibilistic and eat the smaller species, nobody blames them. try and raise fry with full grown fish, not done unless they are good hiders. yet a frog eats a fry and he's wrong?? I have never seen a frog eat a bird, and if he wants snakes, have em buddy, fish will eat snakes also given the chance. sorry, you won't convince me when I've had frogs around for as long as I've had ponds, and known pond people, and you are the only people to not like them. We'll just agree to disagree, when mine catch a bird or a fish for that matter, I'll let you know.
