Hello all! - PICTURES
« on: July 16, 2007, 12:18:20 PM »

My name is Ralph Abercrombie and I live in Stafford County, Virginia. I thought you might enjoy seeing some pictures of my new pond, as it develops.

I plan for it to flow under the arbor and bog out for a distance of about ten feet beyond the far railing. The waterfall will "fall" (pardon the pun) at the extreme right.

I aim for 340 square feet and 4500 gallons, with low spots around 4 feet deep.

More pics to come soon! Thanks for having me, and thanks for looking at this big 'ol hole in the ground:

You are in the perfect place. Welcome to the forum and thanks a bunch for letting us watch how your pond build goes. Looks like you have a great start on it!

PS> If you look close, there is a guy in your pond trying to steal your boulders!

Our project supervisor, "Copper", thinks a rock needs to be here. Or maybe a plant...

Bog end. More rubber, and the pump/spillway.

Great pics...  I take it that you are the one who redid the back porch too? Looks very handy and the pond is going to make your backyard like you are on vacation all the time once it is done. Wait til the other guys on the forum see these pics.

Welcome to the forum Ralph, looks great so far. In your Bog area are you going to make this an actual Bog and fill it with Bog type plants?

Excuse me for sticking my nose in your business (kind of what the forum is for though  Cool ) but it would look pretty cool if you replaced the exterior siding on the porch foundation with a barnwood look. Yeah, I know, I will shut up...

Yes, the siding on the porch foundation will need to be replaced or masked. I will wait until the waterfall s built and some basic landscaping is done before I decide what exactly to do. Also, the latticework underpinning will probably be replaced as well! Thanks!

It's beginning to look like about 3500 gallons at this point, and about 250 square feet of surface area...

I think someone asked me about the bog end... yes, it will be devoted to bog-type plants.

I understand you and Wes had a chat on the phone. Was the information helpful? I really don't know what was said. Call me curious...   Grin

With Virginia clay and rock it pays to own a big shovel:

Boy what I would give for one of those right now Grin .. although would be kinda hard to get down in the pond with it.. a backhoe would be nice.. I just spent 2 hours digging in an area about 6x6 and only got 6 inches down... its hateful.  Not to mention I ran into my french drain dump point for my gutter system right in the middle of the pond.. so now I have to abandon it and run a new line  Angry ...about half tempted to go rent a backhoe if things dont speed up a little...   By the way.. Im right off 610 in Vista Woods subdivison...
